SANTA MONICA, CA— "I played in career mode for hours and kept feeling like I was playing the same annoying circus tune over and over," complained a disappointed gamer.

New biodiesel station - Ashby and Sacramento

Exciting news of a biodiesel station opening up in Berkeley at Ashby Avenue and Sacramento Street. Biofuel Oasis will be a full gas station pumping biodiesel (at $3.65 a gallon) refined for vegetable oil. It will take credit cards and also have a convenience store. Although I don't have the Euro-style diesel super-mini I wish to have, this is still pretty cool!

Design of the New U.S. e-Passport

Here's the design of the new US passport. Looks like they took design cues straight from the Colbert Report. I better hope my passport isn't expiring anytime soon.

Interracial Marriages Surge Across U.S.

Since that landmark Loving v. Virginia ruling, the number of interracial marriages has soared; for example, black-white marriages increased from 65,000 in 1970 to 422,000 in 2005, according to Census Bureau figures. Factoring in all racial combinations, Stanford University sociologist Michael Rosenfeld calculates that more than 7 percent of America's 59 million married couples in 2005 were interracial, compared to less than 2 percent in 1970.

7 percent is a lot higher than I would have guessed. Thinking about it again though, 7 percent doesn't seem that high considering what I'm seeing here around me.

The stresses on interracial couples can take a toll. The National Center for Health Statistics says their chances of a breakup within 10 years are 41 percent, compared to 31 percent for a couple of the same race.
In some categories of interracial marriage, there are distinct gender-related trends. More than twice as many black men marry white women as vice versa, and about three-fourths of white-Asian marriages involve white men and Asian women.

Stop Thumbs.db and .DS_Store files from Polluting Network Shares

Great tip from UneasySilence for people like me who access network volumes between Macs, Windows and Linux machines. Macs annoyingly puts .DS_Store files and Windows puts Thumbs.db on remote drives.

Here's a way to turn them off.
